Wisdom Tooth Extraction

The teeth that grow at the back of your gums are the last teeth to come out which are the wisdom teeth. Wisdom teeth are positioned in each corner of the mouth. They usually come out into the gums during late teens or early twenties. At that time, other 28 adult teeth are in its place. Therefore sometimes there is not enough space in the mouth for the wisdom teeth. In this situation, the wisdom teeth get stuck and partially grow. It is now considered as impacted.
See your dentist and schedule an appointment if you are feeling severe pain or you are uncomfortable with your wisdom teeth. Your dentist will check your teeth and suggest to you whether or not to have your wisdom teeth removed.
Wisdom teeth that become impacted can cause dental issues. Bacteria and small particles of food can get trapped between the edge of the wisdom teeth which can cause plaque build up and which can lead to the following:
  • gum disease (also called gingivitis or periodontal disease)
  • tooth decay (dental caries)
  • cellulitis
  • abscess
  • pericoronitis
  • cysts and benign growths
