What Is The Canada Dental Benefit?

The Canadian Dental Benefit is designed to assist qualified parents or guardians in covering dental costs for children below 12 years of age. This program provides up to $650 annually, tax-free, for a period of two years. The benefit targets around 500,000 children and is offered to families who do not have private dental insurance and have an adjusted net income below $90,000.

Starting on December 1, 2022, the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) will accept applications and process payments for the benefit. The benefit will apply retroactively to dental expenses paid after October 1, 2022.

The program is designed to provide payments to families who have an adjusted net income of less than $90,000 per year and do not have private dental coverage. The payments will be up to $650 per child, per year.

  • Families with an adjusted net income of under $70,000 per year will receive $650 for each eligible child.
  • Families with an adjusted net income between $70,000 and $79,999 per year will receive $390 for each eligible child.
  • Families with an adjusted net income between $80,000 and $89,999 per year will receive $260 for each eligible child.

The quickest and most convenient way to apply for the Canada dental plan program is to apply online through your CRA My Account. Before applying, ensure that you’re prepared. Starting on December 1, 2022, applications for the Canada Dental Benefit will become available.

The Canada Dental Benefit can be utilized to cover any oral health care services provided by a licensed, regulated oral health professional in the location where the care is given.
